How to prepare for a Christmas photoshoot at home | London family photographer

Christmas takes on a whole new dimension when you have young children.

It becomes a season infused with wonder and excitement, as you witness the sheer delight in their eyes when they see twinkling lights, decorate the tree, or open their presents on Christmas morning. The magic of Santa Claus, the joy of baking cookies together, and the bedtime stories filled with tales of reindeer and the North Pole all add to the enchantment.

Now that you have children, you’ve become not just a participant in the festivities but also a curator of lifelong memories for your little sweethearts. Having a professional photoshoot in the comfort of your home will help you remember the cosiness, magic, warmth and excitement of Christmas with your loved ones. Together we’ll create a beautiful record that you will go back to over and over again and each time you do, you will feel that sweet warm sensation in your chest.

Read on to find out how to prepare for your at-home family Christmas photoshoot in London. Please reach out if you have any questions!

Christmas tree & decor

There's something truly magical about the warm and cosy atmosphere of your home during the holiday season. The soft glow of twinkling Christmas lights, personalised baubles, scented candles, festive wreaths and cosy cushions and throws on the sofa. These elements add a touch of magic to your photos, making them unique and truly special. As a matter of fact the more lights the better! For photography purposes it’s best to change settings to constant lighting mode.

Your family traditions

One of the advantages of a home photoshoot is that we can incorporate your family's unique christmas traditions into the background. Have a think about what things and/or activities you would like to capture. It can be simple things like wearing matching christmas jumpers, or something messy and fun like decorating gingerbread cookies together!

What to wear

While matching outfits are not a must, coordinating colours that complement each other can give your photos a cohesive and festive look. Think deep reds, cosy greens, or wintery whites. However, the most important thing is for everyone to feel comfortable and confident in their chosen attire. For extra cosiness feel choose knits! Once your booking is confirmed you will receive a Welcome Guide with tips on how to choose outfits for the whole family. And remember, since we’re shooting at home you can easily change if needed :-)

“We just had the most amazing Christmas photoshoot at home with our newborn, and we're over the moon with the results. Zofia took so many precious photos and we can’t wait for the photo album to arrive! It was so just such a lovely, relaxed morning when we actually reconnected as a family forgetting about all the newborn chaos. Can’t recommend Zofia enough!”

Family together

The holiday season is about the whole family. With a home photoshoot, you can include grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other special people in your family portraits, creating a beautiful record of your family's bonds during this special time. It's an opportunity to capture the love and connection that makes the holiday season so meaningful.

Newborn's First Christmas:

If you have a newborn, their first Christmas is such a magical milestone. Capturing the wonder and innocence of your little one as they experience the magic of the season for the first time is absolutely priceless! These photos will become cherished keepsakes as your child grows.

When to schedule the session

As soon as you put the Christmas decor up! End of November/early December is the best time to ensure your images are ready before Christmas Day. We’ll schedule the session in the morning to ensure best natural light. Please get in touch to book your session as soon as possible as December dates start getting booked from August.

“We had the BEST time during our  Christmas session at home with our two little ones, who usually aren't big fans of having their photos taken. Zofia was incredibly patient and made the whole experience so enjoyable for them (and us). She captured our family's genuine joy and Christmas spirit. We couldn't be happier with the outcome and will cherish these memories forever. Thank you for making it such a fantastic experience!”
