Maternity photography: what to expect? | London Maternity photographer

Congratulations! You’re probably pregnant and just booked your maternity photoshoot or you’re still wondering if you should book one.

You’ve spent months and months lovingly awaiting the arrival of your baby and with each week this surreal day becomes more real. Not a single day goes by without thinking about your sweet little baby. Someone you haven’t met but already love so much. This is why this beginning of your motherhood journey is worth documenting - the excitement, the anticipation, your changing body and the love and adoration you already have for your little sweetheart.

Although pregnancy sometimes feels like eternity, you know that one day you’ll blink and you'll be holding your little one. And then you’ll blink again and your not so little baby will be standing in front of you, full of personality and character. And one day they might ask if you have any pictures when they were in your belly. Children love hearing those stories! And that’s when you’ll open your maternity photo album and show them the images, tell them stories of how your life was before them and how you couldn’t wait to meet them. I’ll be honest, whenever we do that with my three children, I often shed a little tear. But I absolutely love that feeling of warmth inside my chest that I get, whenever we do that. And you will too! Read on to find out what to expect during your maternity photoshoot :-)

Before your maternity photoshoot

As soon as your booking is confirmed, you will receive a welcome guide with tips on how to prepare and what to wear. I will also be there to help you choose outfits if you have second thoughts, I’ll be there to answer your questions, suggest locations and make a personalised plan for your photoshoot. We’ll probably be chatting a lot, so when you see me, it will feel like a long overdue catch up with a friend!

During your maternity photoshoot:

Whether we photograph in your home or outdoors, we want to capture your beautiful body, the love you already have for your baby and all the important people - your partner and older children if this isn’t your first pregnancy. The session will be very relaxed, you can expect giggles, cuddles, hand holding, talking to your belly, playful and quiet time with your older children… I will be gently guiding you through the session. I know exactly what to do and say to get those beautiful, natural expressions from all of you (yes, even if your children or partner are not the biggest fans of having their photos taken ;-)). No awkward posing or smiling to the camera, I promise! The session will be your opportunity to slow down, reconnect, focus on your loved ones with no distractions. Take this moment to celebrate that you're doing something that is truly miraculous.

After your maternity photoshoot

You will receive a sneak peek within 48 hours. I knoooow how difficult it can be waiting for your photos. Checking your inbox several times a day. Wondering if there is at least one decent photo. To make waiting more bearable, I’ll send you four images soon after our session! The online gallery with your images will be ready within two weeks after we meet.

Your gallery

Once you receive your gallery, you can decide how many images you’d like to keep and purchase your chosen Collection. If you choose Print or Album Collections, you will choose which images will be printed and included in the album. Your printed memories will be delivered to your home in beautiful keepsake boxes. When you frame your photos, please send me a picture! I love seeing how families proudly display their art at home :-).

Newborn photoshoot

When you book maternity and newborn photoshoots together, you will receive a 10% on Collections for both sessions!

When to book?

Get in touch in your first trimester to ensure availability. Best time to photograph will be between 30-35 weeks. We can shoot earlier or after that window too. You might be showing earlier so let’s shoot when you’re 28 weeks pregnant! Or maybe you’ve left it until the end and you’re already 37 weeks. That’s ok. I don’t judge. I had my first maternity photoshoot four days before my due date, my second around 7 days before my due date and only the third time I booked it for early weeks of the third trimester!

If you’re pregnant in London and would like to know more about maternity and newborn photography, please get in touch! Let’s capture this special time for your family so you can re-live it over and over again!
